The Nigerian Institution of Petroleum Engineers

Mission

To advance the art, science, and practice of petroleum engineering in Nigeria by fostering professional excellence, continuous education, and technical innovation among our members, while promoting sustainable development and collaboration within the global energy industry.

Vision

To be the preeminent professional body and the foremost catalyst for engineering excellence, technical innovation, and sustainable policy development in the Nigerian petroleum industry and beyond.

Conditions for Membership

The membership of the Institution is divided into Corporate and Non-Corporate classes. The specific criteria for each are as follows:

A. CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP

1. Fellow (FNIPetE)

  • Must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering, or another engineering degree with evidence of working in the Petroleum sector.
  • Must be COREN registered.
  • Must have been a Corporate Member of the Institution for at least ten (10) years.
  • Must have held a position of higher responsibility and attained prominence in the profession.
  • Must have made extraordinary contributions to the cause of the Institution.
  • Must have achieved the minimum requirements for fellowship of the NSE.

2. Corporate Member (MNIPetE)

  • Must possess a degree in Petroleum Engineering or any other engineering degree with evidence of working in the Petroleum sector.
  • The degree must be registrable by COREN.
  • Must have at least four (4) years of recognized professional experience and have made contributions to the Petroleum Engineering profession.

B. NON-CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP

1. Associate Member (ANIPetE)

  • Must possess an Higher National Diploma (HND) in engineering or a degree in the Sciences.
  • Must have at least four (4) years of experience in the practice of Petroleum Engineering.

2. Graduate Member (GNIPetE)

  • Option A (from Student Member): Must have been a Student Member for at least 2 years and possess a degree in Petroleum Engineering (or equivalent) that is registrable by COREN.
  • Option B (direct election): Must possess a degree in Petroleum Engineering (or equivalent) that is registrable by COREN for at least one (1) year.

3. Student Member (SNIPetE)

  • Must be a bonafide matriculated student of Petroleum Engineering (or equivalent) at a recognized university, polytechnic, or higher institution.

 

4. Affiliate Member (AFNIPetE)

  • Must be a person considered to have made relevant contribution(s) to the field of Petroleum Engineering and its allied specialization.

 

5. Corporate Firm Member (CFNIPetE)

  • Must be a registered company or organization recognized under Nigerian law.
  • Its ordinary course of business must be concerned with or promote the development of the Profession or the Institution.
  • The company must have achieved prominence in such a manner as prescribed by the Institution.

C. LIFE MEMBERSHIP

  • Available to members (including Associate Members) who have attained the age of sixty (60) years.
  • Requires a one-time payment equivalent to five (5) years of annual dues at the subscription rate applicable in the year of application.
  • Life members continue to receive their membership benefits.
