Notifications
What the platform tells you about, and how to choose which channels reach you.
What you get notified about
Notifications come from the things that affect you directly:
- Your application — submitted, under review, approved, rejected, or returned with notes.
- Billing — dues falling due, renewal reminders, payment confirmations, failed payments.
- Events and training — registration confirmations, reminders before a session, materials becoming available.
- Meetings — notices, reminders, minutes published.
- Messages — when an administrator writes to you.
Everything lands in Notifications (opens in a new tab), whichever other channels you have on. The bell in the header shows the unread count.
The channels
- In-app — the notifications page and the header bell. Always on; this is the record.
- Email — sent from NIPetE, in its branding.
- SMS — only if NIPetE has SMS configured. Used for meeting reminders and announcements, and for anything else only if you switch it on yourself.
- WhatsApp — where NIPetE uses it, both for verifying your number and for reaching you afterwards.
- Browser push — desktop or mobile notifications from your browser, if you allow them.
Important
SMS and WhatsApp only reach a verified number. Verification is a step in the application wizard, and you can do it later from /settings/notifications (opens in a new tab). An unverified number is the usual reason a member has SMS switched on and still receives nothing.
Tip
Verifying by text message switches SMS on for two things: general meeting reminders and announcements from NIPetE. Nothing else is sent by SMS unless you turn it on yourself, and you can turn either of those off under /settings/notifications (opens in a new tab).
Verifying on WhatsApp does not switch SMS on. Proving the number on WhatsApp shows it is yours; it does not show that a text message reaches it, so the two are tracked separately.
Which of these you are offered depends on NIPetE: an organization with neither SMS nor WhatsApp configured never shows the phone options at all.
Choosing your channels
Settings → Notifications lets you set, per kind of notification, which channels reach you. Turning email off for event reminders does not turn it off for payment confirmations.
A choice you make here is yours and stays made. If NIPetE later switches a channel on for its members, anything you have already set is left exactly as you set it.
Important
Some notifications cannot be switched off. Anything about your membership status or your money will always reach you at least in-app, because missing it has consequences.
Browser push notifications
Enabling push asks your browser for permission. Permission is granted per browser on per device, so enabling it on your laptop does not enable it on your phone.
If you blocked the prompt once, the platform cannot ask again — you have to clear the block in your browser’s site settings first.
